Shakira (born Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll on February 2, 1977) is a Columbian singer-songwriter, dancer, choreographer, record producer and model who first came onto the music scene in the early 1990s.
After her first two albums didn't do well commercially, Shakira took control and produced her next album, Pies Descalzos, in 1995 which proved to be successful in both Latin America and Spain as did her 1998 album, Donde Estan los Ladrones?. She broke into the English-speaking world with her first English single, "Whenever Wherever", off of her first English-language album Laundry Service. She has gone on to become one of Latin music's biggest stars, winning multiple awards including two Grammys and eight Latin Grammys. Her self-titled eighth album, which features a duet with Blake Shelton, was released on March 25, 2014.
Shakira has two sons, Milan (born January 22, 2013) and Sasha (born January 29, 2015), with Spanish soccer star Gerard Pique, whom she has been dating since 2010 when he appeared in music video for her song, "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)", which is the official song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
