Show's impactEdit

The show first attracted attention due to the unusual format. It also gained attention due to various contestants such as Frenchie Davis and Vicci Martinez having tried out for other shows such as American Idol. However, the show's rules state that as long as the contestant currently isn't under management or has an existing record deal, it is OK for them to try out.

The show proved to be very successful, resulting in NBC renewing it for a second season.
