Before trying out for the show, Sasha had previously been a background singer for such artists as Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, John Legend, and Leona Lewis. She has also worked as an actress, appearing in stage productions such as Whistle Down The Road.
After multiple attempts to launch a singing career had not worked out, Sasha, who was living with her family in New York, tried out for The Voice.
The Voice USAEdit
Sasha wowed the coaches with her rendition of the Dixie Chicks' "Not Ready to Make Nice", resulting in all 4 to turn around. She originally picked Adam Levine as her coach.
In this part of the competition, Sasha was matched up against Amber Carrington on the Pink song "Try". Levine picked Amber to move forward while Shakira used one of her two steals on Sasha, resulting in her continuing on the show.
Sasha was then up against singer Shawna P. in the knockout rounds. Her rendition of the Etta James classic "At Last" wowed the coaches. Despite having to make a tough decision, Shakira decided to keep Sasha in the competition.
In this round, Sasha took on "Oh! Darling" by the Beatles, which had been previously been covered by season 2's Juliet Simms. She impressed not only the coaches but the public as well who voted her through to the top 12.
Now in the top 12, Sasha took on the Heart hit "Alone", which earned her a spot in the top 10. Her rendition of Emeli Sande's hit "Next To Me" earned her a spot in the top 8. Her take on the Usher/David Guetta hit "Without You" earned her a spot in the top 6. Her take on both "Bad Girls" by Donna Summer and "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston were cosidered good, but Sasha, along with Amber Carrington, was eliminated on June 11, 2013, finishing in 4th place.
