Matt McAndrew

Matthew Brendan "Matt" McAndrew
(born September 6, 1990) is an American singer-songwriter from Barnegat Light, New Jersey who was the runner-up on season 7 of the Voice USA, mentored by Adam Levine.

Born and rasied in Barnegat Light, New Jersey, Matt had been interested in music since childhood. When he was a senior at Southern Regional High School in Manahawkin, New Jersey, Matt decided to forego college and pursue a music career instead. However, he ended up going to college anyway, enrolling at the University of The Arts in Philadelphia, from which he graduated in 2013. He also began taking vocal lessons with a senior lecturer there in 2011.

While in college, Matt began playing gigs at open mike nights, bars, and ice cream parlors. He even released an independent album called View of The Pines in 2014.

Matt was working as a voice and guitar teacher at a music school in suburban Philadelphia called Back to Rock when he decided to try out for the Voice.

The VoiceEdit

Matt tried out for the Voice by singing the Christina Perri song "A Thousand Years". Three coaches- Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, and Pharrell Williams - all turned around for him. Matt chose Levine to be his coach.

Matt breezed through the Battle and Knockout Rounds but really blew people away when he reached the top 12 when he sang the Hozier hit "Take Me to Church". The song hit number 5 on iTunes, the first of 5 that would hit the top 10. His strong voice and friendly personality endeared him to many, earning him a strong fanbase known as "McFandrews".

Despite being a frontrunner for most of the competition, Matt finished second to Craig Wayne Boyd of Team Blake on December 16, 2014. His finishing second caused anger and outrage amongst Matt's fans, who felt that he deserved to win.

Post the VoiceEdit

Despite finishing second, Matt's debut single, "Wasted Love", which he had performed on the show, was a hit, debuting at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and selling 209,000 copies, making it the highest charting song on that chart by a Voice contestant. He later signed a record deal with Republic Records. He released his newest single, "Counting On Love", on April 27, 2015, the day he performed the song on the Voice. However, Matt was later dropped by Republic Records in 2015 and plans on releasing new music independently.
