R. Kelly versionEdit
The song was originally recorded by R. Kelly for the 1996 film Space Jam and later appeared on his 1998 album R. The song went on to become the biggest hit of Kelly's career, hitting the top 10 in various countries such as the United States, the UK, Germany and Poland. The song also won 3 Grammy Awards. R. Kelly even sang the song on the season 1 finale of The X Factor with that season's winner, Melanie Amaro.
Jermaine Paul versionEdit
For the Voice's final performance show, Paul choose "I Believe I Can Fly" as his last solo performance despite the fact that it has been covered on various talent shows such as American Idol and The X Factor. The coaches, including Paul's coach Blake Shelton, were blown away by the performance despite the critics not being so sure about it. However, it proved to be enough to help Paul secure his victory.
While R. Kelly's version was a major hit, Paul's version did nicely, debuting at number 83 on the Billboard Hot 100.
